For the first time since high-ranking Baylor officials were fired in the wake of a sexual assault scandal, the Baylor assistant football coaches are speaking out publicly.
On Friday evening, the assistant coaches issued a statement on behalf of the rest of the assistant coaches disputing the allegation that Briles was aware of a gang rape.
The statement, signed by assistant coaches and several staff members, disputes this claim. The statement claims an alleged victim reporter to her sport's head coach, who reported to former athletic director Ian McCaw. The assistants' statement claims the victim's coach told Briles nine months later and reported it to McCaw and judicial affairs, and that Briles told the victim's coach to report the matter to police.
