Mo Besic was given match action as Bosnia and Herzegovina drew 0-0 at home to Greece in World Cup Qualifying Group H on Friday night.
The Blues midfielder came on as a 77th-minute substitute in Zenica for his first international appearance since May 2016.
The 24-year-old missed the majority of the 2016/17 campaign after suffering a knee injury while playing for Everton in Wayne Rooney’s testimonial at Manchester United last August.
Besic featured for the Toffees’ Under-23s towards the end of the season to help regain match fitness and was named on the bench for the first team’s final two matches of the league term.
