Luck, Colts hope to avoid second shoulder surgery

INDIANAPOLIS -- The ongoing Andrew Luck saga soon will face a significant crossroads as first reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

The 28-year-old quarterback is expected to return from a month-long stay in Europe this week and resume throwing. His right shoulder's reaction to that program ultimately will determine whether Luck must undergo a second surgery in as many years.

The Colts placed Luck on injured reserve Nov. 2 after soreness in the shoulder did not subside during his previous throwing program. Mortensen reported Sunday the cause of that soreness was determined to be biceps tendinitis.

Luck has been in Europe since being shut down.
